Hello (sorry to write in English!).

I have 1999 Nissan 200sx with an auto transmission. Today I had a problem, it feels like 1st gear is missing! If I put the car in 1 the car will not motve (creep) forward and will not drive. If I put in to 2 the car will very slowly start to move forward (using 2nd gear I assume). In D the same as in 2.

What is the likely cause? Where can I make a repair? How much is likely to cost? (My wife will kill me if I spend too much money on the car!!!!)

Dear untwisted
It seems your transmission stays in "safe" mode to preseve it from progressive defects. This mode can be turned on due to many various conditions, such as wire defects or transaxle mechanical disfunction.
First of all we recomend you scan TCM with special dealer device to receive DTS - diagnostic trouble codes. In many cases it helps with answers to your questions. Our apologies your relationship with your wife - thats is clear understandable :)
